Ok, Bare Babes. FINALLY the post you've all been waiting for and asking for is here. We wanted to bring you the best information, so in addition to our own personal research and experiences, we worked with a licensed esthetician on this post, Tessa (that beauty with the glowing skin pictured above). Our friend and trusted skincare guru gives us her product knowledge and suggestions for a routine based on skin types, and we give some of our personal recommendations and favorites!

Because we take a holistic approach to our health, before telling you what products we like to put on our skin, we had to do our due dili...

It's likely most of the #BareBabes reading this have tried drinking apple cider vinegar, incorporating turmeric or turmeric supplements, or tried adding things like cinnamon, ginger, or cayenne into your diet, because we've all heard about the supposed benefits. It's likely almost all of us have also gone to the local juice shop and ordered a wellness shot (a $3-6 shot, mind you!) when we've felt... let's say... lackluster, under the weather, dull, or just to detoxify or cleanse. Those shots are filled with superfoods that give hope for some kind of miracle to happen. But let's be honest with ourselves....

Cortisol & Stress

Cortisol seems to be one of those buzzwords these days. People talk about trying to control their stress level in order to minimize the amount of cortisol in their bodies. But what exactly is cortisol? How does it work in the body and what are the effects? What can you do to minimize high levels of cortisol?

I don't know about you, but I  am constantly rattling off my to-do list in my head or stressing that I'll never have enough time to complete it. I have a perfectionist mentality and often think, “What if I fail?” I always feel that I need a plan for the day, week, year, or future. It gets over...

Oh boy, finally sitting down to write baby Heslin’s birth story. He’s 9 weeks old now, and I’ve replayed our little story in my head a million times. I want to start by saying that giving birth is magical and wonderful any way it happens.  It is a very personal choice to decide how you want your baby to be born.  This is in no way me saying that everyone should go au natural, because it is not for everyone.  There is no wrong way to give birth.  I was fortunate enough to have a healthy pregnancy that lead to a very smooth delivery.

I toyed with the idea of a natural birth, and loved the idea of it, but was n...

When the headline, "Coconut Oil Isn't Healthy. It's Never Been Healthy," came out, everyone freaked. Since then, things have died down, as they typically do once the media decides they are bored with a topic and they are ready to sensationalize something else. When the news was fresh, people were in awe. They felt like they had been completely fooled. They immediately vowed to never have coconut oil again. Time after time, especially when it comes to health and nutrition, studies and opinions of scientists and specialists conflict. They decide to demonize a particular food or food group based on weak studies,...

Scenario number one: Your alarm goes off, you hit the snooze button. It goes off again, and you decide to wake up. You reach for your phone and immediately check emails, texts, or scroll through social media. Your mind quickly jumps to all the things you need to get done, which inevitably starts to either stress you out, brings your mind to a negative place, or both. You begin to think things like, "I have so much to do," or "I really don't feel like going to work today," or "I'm probably going to be late." You start rushing around to get ready and get yourself out the door, during which, more thoughts contin...

Ok so, we’ve dipped our toes into the superfood pool. Now, for part deux. The amazing thing about these foods is that they are made perfectly by nature. They’re nutrient-rich and innately include all the components necessary for our bodies to absorb and utilize those nutrients, packaged together by Mother Nature. As I mentioned in Part 1, all of these are considered whole food, plant-based protein sources. Let’s get to it and demystify five more superfoods.

Hemp hearts are shelled hemp seeds, as you could guess, from the hemp plant. These seeds have all essential amino acids, protein, fiber, magnesium, iron, zinc,...

I remember the first time I heard about chia seeds. My question was, “Wait, so is the same as what Chia Pets come from?” Fortunately for you, I’ve come a long way since then. So, we’ve heard that chia seeds are good for us, but why? And what the heck are we supposed to do with them? I hear so many people say things like, “Why am I supposed to be doing this again?” or, “I’ve heard *insert superfood* is good for you, but I don’t know what to do with it.” Yes, SUPER foods are obviously good for you; it’s in the name. The “why” and the “how” is what many of us don’t know.  It’s important to know why it is beneficial...

New year, new me, am I right?! But, seriously, we rarely see ourselves or others follow through on that. Why? There are a couple of really common frames of mind that are problematic when it comes to making New Year resolutions, even though they sound positive. “After the new year, I am going to ______,” or “This year I am going to/not going to _____.” Those blanks are typically filled in with vague, broad goals like lose weight, eat healthy, stop being negative, do what makes me happy, etc. Let me take a moment to clarify that wanting to accomplish those types of things are not the problem. I applaud anyon...
