Good thing Nonna doesn't have Instagram, Wi-Fi, or even a computer or else she might be coming after us for sharing her recipe with the world. Her sauce is THAT good, though. As most of you know, we are Italian and try to be very in touch with our heritage. We always are making efforts to learn more about our culture and carry on traditions, one of which being our grandma's authentic recipes.

Our dad is 100p Italian. His parents immigrated to the U.S. from Agrigento, Sicily shortly before he was born in Brooklyn. Our grandmother has always been an amazing cook, and if you individually asked all of her children and...

Forbidden rice. The name alone makes you wanna try it, right? Just like Eve, and every other human, we always want what we can’t have. Good news is, we all can have (and NEED) this forbidden rice bowl in our lives. It’s filled with nourishing veggies, protein, and delicious toppings. You’ll definitely want this in your dinner rotation.

So, what is forbidden rice? Its color comes from anthocyanins— aka antioxidants, just like in dark berries. It also is higher in protein and fiber and lower in calories than brown rice! Aside from the health benefits, it’s honestly just fun to cook with and looks cool. Gives a li...

You officially have the newest, most delicious addition to Taco Tuesday, and it involves avocado. And if it involves tacos and avocado, you can't go wrong, right? We can't decide if this is a chunky salsa, a pico, or maybe like pico and guac had a baby, but we're just gonna go with avocado pico de gallo for simplicity’s sake. But this isn't your average pico.

First off, it's pretty to look at-- super colorful and filled with vibrant ingredients. But most importantly, the flavor is unique and DELICIOUS. Jalapeño to give it a nice kick, some lime for refreshing citrus, and a little coconut nectar...

I don't know about you, but we could literally dive into a bowl of this veggie-loaded lentil pasta. And did we hear pesto?  If there's pesto, we're in. This recipe is seriously one of the EASIEST we have on our blog, and it's so so good.

Bare Nutrition is all about finding ways to say yes to all foods. PASTA included (We're Italian, c'mon we practicaly have pasta in our blood). We also are all about finding ways to take comfort foods with virtually no nutritional content (aka starchy, refined carbs) and making them nutritionally dense meals. Exhibit A: this lentil pasta.

Lentil pasta is the best thing since sliced...

The most satisfying plant based dinner there ever was. Chickpea penne in a sauce of thyme roasted butternut squash, dusted with pistachios. We've got all of the comforting goodness with none of the guilt. The chickpea pasta contains one ingredient-- chickpeas (we use Tolerant brand). This means it's got lots of protein, making it a much better option than traditional pasta which only offers you refined carbs. The sauce is creamy and delicious, but with none of the cream. Instead, we roasted butternut squash with thyme to make it super flavorful, and then pureed it with nutritional yeast (NOT baker's yeast-- r...

If you're thinking, "What the heck is tempeh?" or "What the heck do I do with it?" keep reading. If you're a plant-based vet or just dabbling with meatless options, keep reading. If you're into easy, healthy, DELICIOUS dinners, keep reading. 'Cause this bowl really hits the spot.

Ok, so first off, let's talk about tempeh. Tempeh is a soy product, however it's quite different than tofu, and it doesn't possess the same negative qualities you may have heard about that are typically associated with soy. It's made by fermenting soy beans, which not only makes it easier to digest than other soy products (lik...

It's Taco Tuesday, y'all. That means, shrimp tacos for dinner tonight. We want to make sure we are getting tons of veggies in at dinner time (and all the time), so we serve this up with a Chopped Salad that pairs great with the tacos. When you hear tacos you may immediately associate them as "unhealthy." Think again. We love taking classic, feel-good meals and creating super healthy, yet satisfying alternatives for them. This recipe even subs plain greek yogurt for sour cream (shhh, don't tell your boyfriend, 'cause he won't notice the difference.) If you are dairy-free, we have tried this substitution w...

Bare Nutrition was founded by two Italian sisters, so it’s only natural that we develop some healthy Italian-inspired recipes. We’d love to eat pasta and garlic bread and have cannolis for dessert, but realistically, our bodies don’t want or need that. We’ve talked about zucchini noodles a time or two, and that’s because they are a Bare Staple meal. We make them all the time, for one, because they are so versatile, so you never get bored with them (check out our Asian-Inspired Zoodle recipe here). Secondly, they are an awesome, light and healthy alternative to pasta dishes. If you haven’t purchased a spi...

Whether it be Thai, Chinese, or Japanese, it’s all delicious in our book. It is also super easy to make healthy, Asian-inspired dishes at home. A Bare Staple meal is zucchini noodles, a.k.a zoodles, and they technically can be made with yellow squash, zucchini, or a mixture of both. We love making all sorts of varieties of zoodles (Check out our Italian-Style Zoodles with Vegan Cream Sauce here), but this Asian style version might be our fave. It tastes amazing and it’s insanely FAST AND EASY to make. Quick and healthy dinners are our specialty.

The cool thing about zucchini noodles is that you are g...

Acorn Squash are in season during fall and winter, so now is the best time to get the most delicious acorn squash. There are tons of things you can do with them, but a way to make an entire meal out of one of these guys is to stuff it! It takes about 30 minutes to make and tastes amazing. You can do several variations of this recipe to stuff the squash with whatever greens and veggies you have on hand, but below you can find a tried and true recipe of ours that is super healthy, super satisfying, and enjoyed by anyone (we’ve tested this on the men, friends, and picky eaters in our lives).
