Summer is approaching, and it's a time where many of us are traveling. Not only is summer an especially common time to travel, but it’s also swim suit season, so we think now is a really good time to talk about these tips. Of course, these tips are relevant ANY time you travel, because even when you're not planning on showing skin, it's a good practice to maintain a healthy lifestyle all the time.

Cortisol & Stress

Cortisol seems to be one of those buzzwords these days. People talk about trying to control their stress level in order to minimize the amount of cortisol in their bodies. But what exactly is cortisol? How does it work in the body and what are the effects? What can you do to minimize high levels of cortisol?

I don't know about you, but I  am constantly rattling off my to-do list in my head or stressing that I'll never have enough time to complete it. I have a perfectionist mentality and often think, “What if I fail?” I always feel that I need a plan for the day, week, year, or future. It gets over...

Ohhh, where to start. All things mental health-related can be so misunderstood… in every way possible. From a personal standpoint, it can be hard to understand why you may be feeling “off.” From a therapeutic standpoint, it can be incredibly difficult to treat due to the subjective and complicated nature of mental illnesses and mood disorders. From a social standpoint, people around you might not know what’s going on, why you may be acting different, or why you are interacting less with your friends and family. Maybe you’ve talked to them about it, but they still don’t understand, or maybe you haven’t talked abo...

Scenario number one: Your alarm goes off, you hit the snooze button. It goes off again, and you decide to wake up. You reach for your phone and immediately check emails, texts, or scroll through social media. Your mind quickly jumps to all the things you need to get done, which inevitably starts to either stress you out, brings your mind to a negative place, or both. You begin to think things like, "I have so much to do," or "I really don't feel like going to work today," or "I'm probably going to be late." You start rushing around to get ready and get yourself out the door, during which, more thoughts contin...

Hot lemon water. Something that’s been talked about for while now, but it’s so simple, so what’s the buzz all about? By now, most people have heard that drinking hot lemon water is good for you, but either you’re not sure why or you know some benefits but you haven’t been convinced enough to adopt the habit. Yes, it is so incredibly simple, yet it has so many advantages. It is something everyone can easily do to immediately improve your health, and the way they start you day. As a matter of fact, it’s a part of Bare Nutrition’s morning ritual, which you can read all about here.

New year, new me, am I right?! But, seriously, we rarely see ourselves or others follow through on that. Why? There are a couple of really common frames of mind that are problematic when it comes to making New Year resolutions, even though they sound positive. “After the new year, I am going to ______,” or “This year I am going to/not going to _____.” Those blanks are typically filled in with vague, broad goals like lose weight, eat healthy, stop being negative, do what makes me happy, etc. Let me take a moment to clarify that wanting to accomplish those types of things are not the problem. I applaud anyon...
